From the moment I scheduled my inspection to receiving my final inspection report, my entire Hawkeye experience was seamless.  Making an appointment was easy, and both ladies I spoke with were so pleasant!  I was fortunate enough to have had Peter and Julie perform my inspection. As a first time home buyer, I did not know all the questions to ask or I had (possibly) silly questions. Everything went really smoothly.  Dan Fox did our inspection and was very thorough and knowledgeable.  I shadowed Dan on the inspection and learned a lot about the house. Things to be concerned about, non-issues and where all the shutoffs were.  Very open to questions and easy to talk with.  The whole process was great from initial schedule to receiving a detailed report the night of the inspection.  I'd use Hawkeye and Dan again in a heart beat and would recommend to family and friends.

Also, he was very patient and kind to repeat and use language that I was able to understand when I was having difficulty comprehending what the problem was or just simply having difficulty with terms that I'm not used to. 

The final report was very consistent and included more detail about all the issues and safety concerns that had been explained as the inspection was in progress.  Seeing the detailed photographs and explanation of various terms was very useful for my understanding of the issues, and my decision about the purchase of this property.

Peter is an excellent home inspector and takes pride and great joy in performing his job. (He even confided that he'd prefer to stay and work then retreat to Florida this winter!) Peter was recently chosen by the buyer to inspect the house which took about two hours. After the inspection, Peter contacted me directly to alert the sellers to winterize the outside faucets in order to avoid freezing. As many of you know, burst pipes can be a major setback and jeopardize or delay the sale of the home. In my experience, burst pipes are a major burden that no seller wants to contend with. “So let's face it, kids...buying a house is probably one of the most stressful and biggest purchases you'll ever make in your life and nothing in life has intellectually or emotionally prepared you to have any sort of knowledge or ability to figure out if the house you're buying is a Shelley Long/Tom Hanks caliber money pit (totally just gave away my age there lol)...so you learn pretty quickly that it's all about finding resources and contacts you can trust to help guide you through these decisions...the first major one being the home inspection. =)

I did my homework on home inspection companies in the area (I bought my house in Framingham) and based on the positive reviews, services offered, etc. decided Hawkeye was the right company for me. I saw words like thorough, friendly, detailed, knowledgeable, sense of humor and some other stuff like how detailed the reports were, etc. It also seemed to me that most of the negative reviews were based on unrealistic expectations and since overall the reviews were far better than any other inspectors I decided to go with Hawkeye.

I called up and got an appointment within the next 1-2 days to have my home inspected by Danny. Danny was awesome! He was on time, super pleasant and fun, incredibly thorough, took the time to explain the whole process to me before getting started and helped reel in my enthusiasm or flippant comments (about some things not being a big deal to me) while the realtors were around. =) What can I say I'm very excitable/heart on my sleeve lol.  Danny covered every corner, every outlet, every surface of my house (a single family house with 3 beds + study, roughly 1500-1600 sq. feet not including the small walk up attic, detached 1 car garage, large deck and full basement). On top of inspecting the house for any issues, Danny also walked me through some of the maintenance I would need to do as a homeowner (like did you know that your house has air filters you need to change depending on the heating system or how frequently you need to change them? or that you turn off the water that runs to your hose in winter? I didn't - until Danny told me lol) and prioritized the repairs for me and how long I had before I would need to make any repairs/updates. He also made himself available after the inspection to go over any questions I had once I got the report which came in real handy!

Aside from how great Danny was - the report you receive is also awesome. You’ll get a hard copy of the report in a binder with color pictures and explanations of the damage, etc. as well as a digital copy. That was really great, but the best thing about this whole process was not just the peace of mind I felt about buying my house because of the condition, but actually being walked through a lot of the homeowner stuff so I realized it wasn't as daunting as I thought. And let's face it - if you've got someone pleasant with you, everything's a lot better so having a friendly, pleasant (and patient lol) person to do the inspection really helps. I would expect no less on the being thorough and knowledgeable part but some people consider the nice, friendly, pleasant stuff optional so having someone as personable and friendly as Danny to take the fear out of the process was a real win for me personally.

I used Hawkeye for a home inspection last month. Anthony Mazzola was the assigned inspector. As first time home buyers we were novices on the different aspects of an inspection. Anthony did an outstanding job by explaining in detail every point on the inspection checklist. He did this during the inspection process, so we got to learn a lot about the home and its maintenance. It gave us confidence on the deal we were getting into. He was very patient in answering all our questions sometimes even going into technical details. As a bonus, he brought in snacks, water and soda which was a pleasant surprise. They turned in the report in 2 days and overall we were extremely satisfied with the experience. Hawkeye takes efforts to keep you posted on home tips which I find useful as a first time home buyer.

Thanks for sending me a copy of the invoice receipt.   I just have to PRAISE Peter Ottowitz for his skillset in performing this inspection.  I was 100% sure I was getting a gem of a deal, but his thoroughness and willingness  to crawl into every nook and cranny (including places I would never dream of going) just saved me from making a terrible purchasing decision.  As a result, I have withdrawn my offer to buy this particular house.  The foundation is literally caving in underneath the house, the chimney needs significant repairs, a lot of the ‘upgraded’ electrical work was poorly or incompletely done and the list goes on and on.  In short, he saved me thousands of dollars in repair work that I would not have been able to afford. 

Aside from that, he has a great sense of humor, explains things in a way a non-professional can understand and even brings water and snacks for his clients.  Love it!

I cannot express how grateful I am that he was the one to perform this inspection.  Hopefully, I'll find another house and you can bet I will call and ask for Peter to do that inspection too!

This is one of the best experiences I've ever had. The best money you spend on real estate starts with a home inspection. It's the most important part of the process.

Nick arrived 15 minutes early and took the time to explain all my paperwork and assured me to ask as many questions as I needed to. He took the time to explain his process. He even brought snacks and drinks – a very unique touch.

Nick went over the entire condo, basement, attic and outside of the house slowly and very well. He had a great sense of humor and was very professional.

I didn't feel comfortable climbing a latter into the attic, so Nick and my realtor went up for a good 20 minutes and then came down and explained all of their findings.

This process took about three and a half hours. I did not feel rushed once.

Nick gave me a great binder with all the information I needed for the home.

He gave me peace of mind by showing me the minor repairs needed on the condo before signing the P&S.

Nick gave me so many tips and hints. I learned a lot!

He even got out of his car after we completed the inspection and asked what my realtor and I were looking at from across the street (chimney/roof). He wanted to make sure we didn't have additional questions.

Do not search for a home inspector. Call Hawkeye. They're worth every penny!!!!

I will always refer these guys.

Hi Bryan,

I just wanted to let you know that you were so spot-on in calling our attention to the water main, which was old and in your opinion probably full of rust. As a result, we asked the sellers for $1K cash back at close, to which they agreed. This week--fortunately before our closing date--the water main between the street and the house burst, and everything had to be replaced. The sellers are still the owners for another two weeks so they picked up the cost of that, but had it happened after we moved in, thanks to your warning, we would have had some financial cushion against the repair. So I just wanted to say thanks again for your thoroughness!

Had my future home inspected by Hawkeye and the inspection had gone above and beyond what I had expected. Hawkeye was recommended by my fiance's brother. Before his home purchase, he had Bryan from Hawkeye inspect the home. This home was a little of a "fixer upper", but after the inspection, he had a very good idea of what to expect. He now has been in the house for a bit over three years, and he has told me there were no surprises that Bryan hadn't pointed out. My wife and I recently used Hawkeye Home Inspections for our new home purchase. Peter Ottowitz was our inspector. He was very thorough, professional, and surprisingly entertaining - even showed up with cold waters, cookies, and chocolates. When an inspector is rifling through the home of your dreams, it can be nerve-racking as you hope they do not find anything majorly wrong with the property. But Peter was excellent in many ways - bringing humor and comfort into the inspection was a nice touch.

After using one of the "larger corporations" for my last home inspection, I realize now just how thorough Peter was with our inspection.

I would certainly use Hawkeye Home Inspections and recommend them to anyone buying a new home.

I was referred to Peter Ottowitz of Hawkeye Home Inspection by my one of my co-workers and her husband who gave them rave reviews.  When I scheduled an appointment with the company, I thought that I was going to have a "standard, run of the mill, home inspection" and didn't understand quite what my co-worker was so excited about.

Peter was a delight to work with!  He was refreshingly thorough, funny, and down to earth.  Peter checked crawlspaces and areas of concern that I didn't even know existed and documented his findings with multiple reports (which included photographs) of follow-up items.  Because of Peter, I truly feel like I am an educated home buyer.

Everything from the phone conversations I had with your business manager to your arriving early at the site, to your bringing water and cookies to keep us all happy - this was all wonderful. There was just a story in the paper about 'choosing the right home inspector,' and I'm glad I choose Hawkeye as the right one for me. :)

Peter was phenomenal. As first time home buyers Stacey and I are learning a lot of things all at once. Peter was incredibly thorough and detailed while doing the home inspection and encouraged questions each step of the way. Not only did he answer each and every question asked, he went out of his way to explain what could be a potential problem and what course of action we may want to take. All of this was explained in laymen terms so we had a clear and complete mutual understanding. Did I mention he did all of this on a Saturday? In Hull? And he brought us cookies! I have a quick question.  You mentioned in your report that the front faucet didn't work.  I asked the owner about that and they said " front faucet has been permanently disabled because of frozen pipes in the past".  Do you know roughly how much it would cost to fix something like that?  This is also the same wall in which the electric outlet was not working (in the garage).  Maybe the two are correlated?
