Why are Chimney Liners Important?

All masonry chimneys need linings. Clay linings are the most common, but chimneys can also have ceramic, poured-in-place or metal conduit linings. Linings protect adjacent combustible material, such as wood, from catching fire. In addition, they contain flue gases that could wear away mortar, thereby allowing harmful gases such as carbon monoxide to leak into the home, not to mention reducing the life of the chimney.
