There are many DIY options you can undertake to keep your indoor air fresh and free of pollutants. Most homeowners don’t realize that there are myriads of toxins that can be found in a home. For example, toxic cleaners, toxic furniture or other household products as pillows, beds and shower curtains can greatly pollute the air you breathe indoors. Fumes from paint and other substances used in remodeling can be extremely harmful. Smoking indoors, of course, is an obvious pollutant. Carbon monoxide is a dangerous substance that can drift into the home, if it is close to the road or if doors to the garage are not properly sealed.
NASA discovered in 1989 that plants can indeed remove toxins from the air. In addition, they can lift your mood and improve concentration. There are a whole host of plants known to remove specific toxins. For example, according to healthline.com, spider plants eliminate formaldehyde and xylene, chrysanthemums remove formaldehyde, xylene, benzene and ammonia, rubber plants detoxify the air of carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene and bamboo palms tackle formaldehyde, benzene, carbon monoxide, xylene and chloroform among others.
